Automating Existing Gates in Hampshire

Already have driveway gates? In many cases we can add electric motors to the gates you have, so they open from a remote, keypad or intercom. Whether your gates are suitable depends on their condition, weight, size and how they are hung, so every job starts with a survey.

Can my gates be automated?

Not every gate can be automated as it is. Motors put extra load on posts, hinges and the gate frame every time the gate opens and closes. We check the whole entrance first and tell you straight if anything needs repairing or replacing before the motors go on.

What we check at the survey

  • The posts and their foundations
  • Hinges and the condition of the gate frame
  • For sliding gates, the ground and track the gate runs on
  • The size and weight of the gate, and how exposed it is to wind
  • The space the gate needs to open, and any slope across the driveway
  • Where the power supply can come from
  • Who uses the gate, and how you want to open it

Ways to automate a gate

Swing gates

Motors fitted to each gate leaf, either above ground on the gate and posts, or hidden underground below the hinge.

Sliding gates

A motor beside the gate drives it along its track to open and close.

Access control

Open the gate with remote fobs, a keypad or an intercom, chosen to suit how the gate is used.

We fit Roger Technology brushless motors. Safety edges and photocells are chosen to suit each entrance, so the gate stops or reverses if something is in its way.

What does it cost?

Automating existing gates starts from £4,200 including VAT (£3,500 excluding VAT). The cost depends on your existing gates, motor choice, power supply and any preparation needed. We provide a written quotation following a survey.

Starting guide prices only. Every installation is individually quoted following a site survey. The final price depends on the gate specification, site conditions and work required. Prices are shown including VAT at 20%, with the price excluding VAT alongside.

How it works

  1. Survey. We look at your gates and entrance and check they are suitable for automation.
  2. Written quotation. We set out the motors, access control, safety equipment and any work needed first.
  3. Preparation. If posts, hinges or the gate need attention, we explain what is needed before automation goes ahead.
  4. Installation. Our team fits the motors, control panel, safety devices and access control.
  5. Safety checks. We check the safety devices and force-test the gates before handover.
  6. Aftercare. We recommend servicing every six months. See gate servicing and repairs.

Warranty and aftercare

  • Two years' warranty on the new automation equipment we supply. This covers the new equipment, not your existing gates
  • One year's warranty on our labour
  • We recommend servicing electric gates every six months, at £216 including VAT (£180 excluding VAT) per visit

Full terms are set out in your written quotation.
