Passage Lane
Warsash Gate Project
A technically demanding automated sliding gate installation in Warsash, designed to operate safely and consistently on a steep downhill driveway. The project required bespoke steel fabrication, controlled gate geometry and a secondary mechanical control system to regulate movement throughout the full travel.
Built for an Entrance Where
Standard Gate Design Was Not Enough.
The Passage Lane project required a bespoke automated sliding gate system designed around the entrance geometry, the gate weight and the need for controlled movement on a steep gradient.
Perimeter Fencing and Gates fabricated the steel gate structure in-house so the frame profile, travel path, support arrangement and automation layout could be planned as one complete system.
This project supports our wider work in professional driveway gate installation, where the physical gate, supporting structure and automation must all work together from the outset.
Bespoke Frame Geometry
& Structural Steel Fabrication.
The gate was fabricated with a rising lower profile so the frame could follow the angle of the driveway while preserving a clean visual top line. This improved both clearance and appearance across the entrance.
Key joints were fully welded for torsional stability, helping the gate maintain alignment under load during repeated automated use. On a sliding gate system, the gate leaf, support structure and drive equipment must remain consistent over time.
Secondary Mechanical Control
for Safer Gate Travel.
On a steep downhill driveway, the mass of a sliding gate can create additional pull during closing travel. Without a properly engineered control method, this can increase speed, accelerate wear and place unnecessary strain on the automation system.
To manage this, a secondary mechanical control arrangement was integrated alongside the primary automation. Its role is to provide consistent resistance so the gate maintains controlled, predictable movement across the full opening and closing cycle.
This is why gate automation should be designed around the entrance, the gate structure and the safety requirements of the finished system.
Fabrication, Installation
& Final Operation.
The finished installation demonstrates a controlled automated gate system built around the specific design parameters of the entrance. The result is a clean residential gate installation with the structural and mechanical detail required for reliable long-term use.
Final Safety Checks
& Controlled Handover.
After installation, the gate system was commissioned to confirm controlled travel, correct stopping behaviour and safe operation across the full movement cycle. Particular attention was given to speed regulation because of the driveway gradient.
As with all powered gate systems, safety and handover are central to the installation. We follow HSE electric gate safety guidance when designing, installing and commissioning automated gate systems.
- ✓ Controlled gate movement verified
- ✓ Automation system commissioned
- ✓ Safety checks completed before handover
